Supporting teachers to become qualified teacher librarians

The ACT Government has announced an $888,000 investment to support teachers to become qualified teacher librarians, with ten Master of Teacher Librarianship scholarships available per year to 2025.

A qualified teacher librarian supports the delivery of the curriculum at a student, classroom and school level by enhancing digital and information literacy, resourcing the curriculum, and helping students become critical, creative and collaborative thinkers. Teachers also benefit by collaborating and co-teaching with a qualified teacher librarian to further develop their information and digital. literacy practices in the classroom.

"Right now there are not enough qualified teacher librarians to undergo further studies to increase the number of qualified teacher librarians," Minister Berry said.

Authors highly value the role of Teacher Librarian in schools.
