Charles Sturt University - School of Information Studies 

Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship)

This course offers a professional teacher-librarianship qualification recognised and accredited by the Australian Library and information Association (ALIA). The course is fully online, and is made up of six core and two (8 point) elective subjects, and is normally undertaken by part-time study over two years. This period can be extended to four years of part-time study or reduced to one year of full-time study. The course is open to qualified teachers who hold a four year qualification such as a Bachelor of Education or an undergraduate degree and a Graduate Diploma of Education; or possess other qualifications deemed to be equivalent by the Faculty. Applicants who have a three year teaching qualification and one or more years teaching experience will be considered. There are no residential schools.

Master of Information Studies

This course offers a broad range of opportunities for those interested in the information and cultural sectors. The course provides students with an in-depth understanding of the creation, evaluation, collection, organisation, utilisation and dissemination of information in the contemporary information environment. Students are able to choose subjects from a wide range of specialisations, including children’s literature, community networking, knowledge management, information architecture, records and archives management.  Comprising nine core and four elective subjects, the Master of Information Studies can be studied over three years part-time (1.5 years full-time equivalent).

This degree is fully accredited  by the Australian Library and Infomation Association (ALIA) and the Records and Information Management Professionals Australasia (RIM Professionals Australasia) as a professional qualification, enabling graduates to work in the full range of library, records and related information sectors. Graduates of the Records and Archives specialisation will also be recognised by the Australian Institute of Archivists.

Single subject study without being enrolled in a course is available. Internet access is required.  Subjects can later be credited to a formal course, if desired.

University of South Australia

Graduate Diploma in Information Management (Library and Information Management)

Entry requirements: A recognised Bachelor degree or equivalent. If you wish to undertake the teacher librarianship option you must already be a qualified teacher, undertake the Reading and Readers’ Advisory, complete the in-service project within a school library, and complete a placement at a school library.

All courses will be available totally online either part-time or full-time depending on your circumstances in four 10-week terms. The Program Director will discuss questions related to credit on a one-to-one basis.
