ASLA 2020 - Literacy Research Summits
'Capturing research to enable literacy leaders to transform the culture of schools'
LITERACY SUMMITS POSTPONED UNTIL NOVEMBER, 2020
The ASLA Board takes the health and safety of our staff, sponsors, delegates and volunteers very seriously and we are committed to doing what we can to reduce the spread of COVID-19. It is with deep regret, therefore, that the ASLA Board announces the postponement of the ASLA 2020 Literacy Research Summits planned for May, 2020, in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne.
ASLA is proud that Dr Margaret Merga will be the keynote speaker for a series of Literacy Research Summits to be held nationally in November 2020.

Dr Merga will be supported by other research experts and experienced practitioners who will provide an opportunity to explore the application of her ideas and equip delegates with strategies to use in the workplace to advocate for the place of the school library. This will include guidance in developing a strong and research-based program designed to both support and raise literacy levels right across our schools.
Dr Merga is an exceptional advocate for school libraries and recently appeared on Radio National – Click here to listen. She is a Senior Lecturer at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia and her research findings in literacy explore the role that librarians, teachers and parents can play in supporting young people to become life-long readers. ASLA is honoured that she will be leading our exciting Literacy Research Summits in 2020
