An additional session of the ASLA Interactive Workshops: Developing a Vibrant whole school reading culture is coming your way — created in direct response to member feedback.

This extended session will give us the opportunity to slow down, dig deeper, and continue the powerful professional conversations that have been shaping the vital work we do in school libraries to develop a reading culture.

If you missed the first one, you can still join in the learning.

Want to strengthen reading engagement across your school setting?

This session will:

- Explore how to build a vibrant, whole-school reading culture that genuinely connects with students and fosters a lifelong love of reading.

- Provide actionable strategies to spark reading interest, sustain engagement, and support diverse learners across all year levels.

- Discover how to embed reading into the everyday life of your school, creating a culture where reading is visible, valued, and championed by the whole community.

- Walk away with ideas you can implement immediately to enhance reading support, drive engagement, and lead meaningful change in your context.

• Library assistants and support staff aspiring to leadership
• Early career teacher librarians
• Experienced library staff wanting to strengthen strategic leadership capacity

In this conversation, Jennie will speak about the essay by British writer Robert Macfarlane that inspired her two anthologies, the process of ‘curating’; the timeliness of this latest collection given the widespread concerns about ‘the reading crisis’; and the work of Room to Read, the organization that has brought literacy and the love of reading to tens of millions of children in the developing world.

Jennie Orchard has been involved with the world of books and publishing for more than four decades, initially in London, later in Australia and Asia, with extensive experience as an editor and an agent, also literary event organiser.
