Strategic Management Plan -- 2008-2010

A. Provide leadership in professional practice and school-based workforce planning

1. Develop and promote a vision for professional learning for the profession
2. Identify, support and promote research on the school library sector
3. Review, update and develop policy statements and standards to effectively address current professional practice
4. Develop and deliver a range of advocacy activities to promote the profession and school library sector
5. Initiate a national school library symposium

B. Develop and maintain sound governance and management

1. Review the structure of the association to assess its alignment with current operational practice of national professional associations
2. Create a new governance structure to operate as the preferred national body for school libraries
3. Develop a 'councillor readiness' program for representatives on council to develop skills and knowledge for effective participation
4. Identify and develop projects and publications of national significance to increase revenue and promote school libraries

C. Commit to communication and engagement

1. Develop and maintain productive working relationships with national agencies and associations
2. Ensure open and transparent communication between ASLA, National Council and members of state/territory school library associations
3. Convene e-forums on matters relating to school libraries for all school library personnel
